Silicon posted an interesting article last month about the way we will work in the future. The story focused on research from PriceWaterhouseCoopers that questioned 1,150 workers in the UK about their career aspirations and workplace predictions for 2020. Interestingly, in a decade’s time most of the respondents believed they would be far more likely to carry out their profession via remote working. What’s more the research found the youngest group of workers (16 to 25 year olds) felt they would still be working in an office block come 2020 (61 per cent).
Providing a consistent and reliable level of service to users can be very hard to do if network traffic has quadrupled and the system is unable to cope with the sheer volume of requests to web applications. Remote working is only likely to grow in popularity over time, so gaining a better understanding of the application and flow of traffic across your network, and making sure the systems are in place to cope with it, is crucial. Embracing this new way of working and ensuring that technology acts as a real enabler, will make sure that it is seen as a positive trend by businesses, employees, and network managers alike.
